Abstract

732,033. Stud and socket fasteners. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Nov. 2, 1953 [Dec. 30, 1952], No. 30283/53. Class 44. A snap fastener socket 10 comprises a hollow body having a base formed with an upstanding peripheral wall 18 defining a stud receiving cavity 20, the wall having a slot 32 formed therein and a spring member 24 being provided encircling the wall, with a portion 34 of the member disposed in the slot and projecting inwardly of the stud receiving cavity for snap fastener engagement with an inserted stud. One side of the wall 18 is embossed inwardly to form a rounded shoulder 40 which merges gradually into the wall and which imparts a three side lock feature since the stud can only be disengaged upon application of force to the part of the stud which is opposite to the shoulder. The stud is engaged on the part opposite to the shoulder 40 by the portion 34 of the spring member 24. The spring member 24 encircles the wall 18 underneath a flange 22 of the wall and is of D-shape with the straight part 34 of the D entering the slot 32. The wall 18 terminates in a base 16 which has a central opening 26 to enable it to be attached to a support 12 by means of a cupped rivet 28. A tongue 30 may be formed in the base to prevent rotation on the support. The stud 14 has a shoulder 44 and inclined neck 46. The slot 32 has upper and lower edges which are inclined so that the vertical dimension of the slot is greater at the exterior of the wall 18 than at the interior, this preventing mud and grit jamming the movement of the spring member.
