Abstract
732,010. improving damaged hides. LAIMBOCK, J. B. June 11; 1953 [Jan. 5, 1953; June 4, 1953], No. 16137/53. Class 76. Skins, hides and leather damaged, e.g. by barbed wire, or when skinning, or by salt-stains, are abraded before or after dyeing through openings in a stencil, said openings being chosen to form a pattern and expose the damaged places in the skin. Abrasion may be by means of a jet of hard fine particles such as of sand, steel, glass or carborundum, or by means of cards or brushes or emery paper, steel wool, shark or watersnake skins. If desired, counterpressure may be applied to the skin opposite the openings in the stencil. The treatment may be applied to either side of the skin. In the case of an undyed skin, dyeing produces a design in which the abraded portions are darker: with dyed skins, the abraded portion is lighter. Colours may subsequently be applied through the same stencil by brushing or spraying. Abrasion may if desired be continued until a perforated pattern is obtained.
