Ornamenting. - Artificial leather, particularly artificia1 antique leather, is made by dressing or finishing a fabric, with dressing medium containing starch, ca1endering under high pressure, applying dye such as aniline dye, by means of sponges, sponge-ro11ers, or by squirting, to produce an indistinct design, and drying. The fabricis then treated again with dye, preferably of a darker tone than the first colour, and again dried. This treatment may be repeated, the fabric being finally calendered. Any ornamentation or grain may then be impressed on the material in known manner.
