Abstract

251,535. Paisseau, J. Sept. 2, 1925, [Convention date]. Ornamenting.-A lustrous or metallic appearance is produced on a plain or marbled base of black or neutral colour by applying a coating consisting of a cellulose varnish containing pearl essence, a soluble colouring substance being also incorporated in the varnish or applied separately after the coating of varnish has dried. As an example, a sheet of celluloid coloured black is given the appearance of polished bronze by applying a coating of a cellulose varnish containing pearl essence and, when the coating has dried, colouring it by immersion in a solution of chrysophenine in a solvent or in a second coating of varnish. The process may be used for ornamenting leather, such as varnished leather or leather which is dyed black.
