Abstract

731,279. Rolling, tubes. T. J. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd. July 3, 1953 [July 16, 1952; Oct. 21, 1952], Nos. 17961/52 and 26387/52. Class 83 (4). A pilger tube-rolling machine comprises a pair of main rolls 1, 2, Fig. 1, with shallow grooves and a pair of subsidiary rolls 3, 4 mounted between the main rolls with their axes at right-angles to those of the main rolls. The rolls 3, 4 are supported on slides 14, 15 which are pressed towards the work by hydraulic pistons and cylinders 22, 24, and move in phase with the varying width of the grooves in the main rolls. The required movement is obtained by a varying supply through pipes 20, 26 from pistons 48, Fig. 2, moved in cylinders 50 by a cam 38 connected to the drive shafts 9, 10 for the main rolls. The rolls are yieldingly held apart by pistons and cylinder combinations 33, 35 which may be pneumatic or hydraulic.
