Abstract

731,102. Non-return valves. JACOBS, C. R. Feb. 25, 1953 [Feb. 28, 1952], No. 5227/53. Class 135. A non-return valve, e.g. for a pump, comprises a closure member 12, Fig. 3, having a spherical seating portion 16 and a streamlined tail portion, and vanes 18 secured to the member for causing rotary movement thereof when liquid flows through the valve. The member is guided as shown by a ring 19 attached to the member by radial struts, and in a modification by a rod extending through a fixed guide block. In another embodiment, the vanes 18 are omitted and the struts are shaped to cause the rotation, and in yet another embodiment, rotation is caused by vanes 23, Fig. 5, extending radially from the member, which may be hollow. The valve may be mounted in the reciprocating plunger of a pump or may be located in the foot of a pump cylinder.
