A liquid circulating or stirring device having thermostatically controlled means for heating or cooling the liquid in a container, consists of a unitary structure including a pump housing 9 rigidly connected to a driving motor 3 by a delivery pipe 8, a shaft 6 passing through the pipe and carrying a pump impeller 11, a heating element 13 and/or a cooling element surrounding said pipe and positioned above the housing 9 and a temperature responsive member 16 positioned at substantially the same height as the heating and/or cooling elements and in the vicinity thereof. The pump housing 9 has inlet slots 10 and the outlet from the pump delivery pipe 8 comprises a nozzle 12 which may be extended by a hose to deliver liquid at any point in the container, or to another container or through a heatexchange coil therein. A stirring impeller 7 is provided on the shaft 6 beneath the pump housing 9, but alternatively a stirring action can be produced by providing holes 20 in the housing 9 above the impeller vanes 11, Fig. 2 (not shown). In Fig. 3 (not shown) a thermostatically controlled cooling coil surrounds the heating element 13 and may be operated together with or independently of the heating element. Gas may be passed into the liquid through a pipe which opens into the lower part of the pump housing 9.
