Abstract

<PICT:0752524/III/1> An emulsifying device comprises a housing 1 containing a rotatable agitator provided with cruciform heaters 10, and is driven by the action of one or more of the inflowing constituents on a turbine wheel 7 connected to the driving shaft of the agitator. A perforated partition 8 separates the turbine wheel from the agitator and further perforated partitions 11 are arranged between the heaters of the agitator. The housing is made in two halves which are joined at 4, the partitions 8, 11 also being in two parts and attached to the inside of the housing. When used for the preparation of emulsions of oil or fat in water, e.g. coolant emulsions, mains water enters at 14 and mixes in an injector nozzle with oil from duct 151 located in a rib 16 of the housing; the amount of oil introduced is regulated by means of screw valve 17 which may be associated with an indicator of the proportion of oil in the mixture. The mixture enters the turbine chamber 6 tangentially and rotates the turbine wheel 7; after passing through the mixing chamber 9, prepared emulsion leaves at 22. Compressed air or nitrogen may be added to one of the constituents to provide the necessary driving force.
