A concrete or asbestos reinforced, or plain, lamp standard b having a bracket arm a for a lantern h attached to, or cast as an integral part of the standard is characterized in that the light control equipment is fixed to a bracket d housed in a cavity c formed in the bracket arm, the control equipment being accessible by means of a door, or plate e. The bracket arm a may be bolted to the standard b as shown, fit over a spigot projecting from the standard b, or the two parts may be connected by a tube projecting into each part. Combinations of these joining methods may be employed. In a modification, Fig. 7, the cavity c is also open on a second side adjacent the light source, the control equipment being mounted on a horizontal bracket d which is completely, or partly, removable through the second open side.
