A lamp casing is formed from pressed and moulded plastic materials in parts designed to be fitted together and to encircle a front glass or lens and to be secured together by external mechanical means. Figs. 1 and 2 show a vehicle head lamp casing consisting of upper and lower halves 1, 2 moulded from a syntheic resin secured together by a flexible strap 12 such as a thin metal band having riveted plates 13 at its ends bolted to a supporting bracket 15. The parts 1, 2 may have interengaging edges and may be formed with a recess to receive the strap 12. The lower part 2 may be apertured to receive bushes 4 for the supply cables. The socket member 6 carrying the lamp bulb 5 is in dovetailed engagement with a seating 3 on the lower half 2 and may be adjusted by a screw 7. The front glass 10 and reflector 8 are secured in a groove inside the mouth of the lamp casing. An air space may be provided between the reflector and the casing. Figs. 5 and 7 show another construction in which the two halves of the casing are hinged together at overlapping lugs 19 and are secured by a removable screw 21 at diametrically opposite overlapping lugs 20. Both halves are formed with spaced lugs 22 to allow the casing either to be suspended on a bolt 24 or supported by a bolt 23 fastened to the vehicle frame. A drainage hole 26 is provided in the lower half 2.
