[Class 75 (iv).] Electric-lamp l a n t e r n s ; mounting electric lamps in lanterns ; lantern doors.-A lantern for a traffic signal or other electric lamp comprises a body part formed with separate compartments for the individual bulbs, each compartment being open at the front and rear and being closed by removable front and rear covers so as to provide easy access to the bulbs. In the form shown the body part 5 is in the form of a casting and comprises three separate circular compartments 6, 7, 8 for the bulbs 23. The front of each compartment is fitted with a glazed cover 9 provided with a cowl 9a and with lugs 9b adapted to coact with studs 9c on the body part 5 and be secured by wing nuts 9d. The rear of each compartment is fitted with a similar glazed cover, or with an opaque cover 12 provided with lugs 12b adapted to be secured by screws 12c to bosses 12d on the body part 5. The rear covers 12 may be flat or dished, and their inner surfaces may be polished to serve as reflectors, or separate reflectors may be provided. The front and rear covers are formed with grooved rims 15, 16 containing packing 15a, 16a to form watertight joints with the rims of the compartments 6, 7, 8. The latter are connected by tubular connecting pieces 17, 18, and socket pieces 19, 20 are provided whereby the lantern is supported from a standard 21 by means of brackets 22. The bulb holders 23a are fitted in U-shaped carriers 24 which are secured by screws 25 to ears 26 on the rims of the compartments 6, 7, 8.
