Abstract

The invention comprises thiazole 2-carboxyhydrazides of the general formula <FORM:0729331/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms. They are prepared by condensing hydrazine with a lower alkyl ester or acid halide of the appropriate thiazole 2-carboxylic acid. In examples: (1) thiazole-2-carboxyhydrazide is prepared by reacting hydrazine hydrate with ethyl thiazole 2-carboxylate in alcoholic solution; and (2) 5 - methylthiazole - 2 - carboxyhydrazide is similarly prepared from ethyl 5-methylthiazole-2-carboxylate.
