Abstract

[Also in Group XXV and XXXVI] A tensioning clamp for a cable comprises two or more clamping units 1 which separately and cooperatively grip the cable 9, the units each having two bores parallel to the cable axis and being slidably mounted adjacent one another on two metal rods 7, 8 passing through the bores and connected together at one end, stops 11 being provided at their other ends against which the unit bears when the cable is tensioned. The rods may comprise the legs of a U-bolt, and the stops 11 may consists of nuts screwed on to the free ends thereof. Each clamping unit may comprise members 13, 15, the former having two bores for the passage of rods 7, 8, one on each side of a semi-circular jaw 14 and the latter having one bore for the passage of rod 7, and an arcuate jaw 16. Member 15 fits on rod 7 between two abutments 21, formed by a slot in member 13. Rod 8 also passes through the eye of an eye bolt 17 rotatably housed in member 13. The shank of the eye bolt passes through an opening 18 in member 15 and is provided with a nut 19 by means of which the jaws 14, 16 are clamped on the cable 9. Alternate clamping units are mounted on rods 7, 8 the reverse way round.
