Abstract

729,204. Loud-speakers. MORRIS, G. A.. Jan. 9, 1952 [Oct. 10, 1950], No. 24719/50 Classes 40 (4). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A loud-speaker S and a mounting block 8 are mounted face downwards on a soundbox 4 with the speaker axis in line with the centres of apertures 7 and 6 in the top and bottom of the box. Sound from the top of the diaphragm is projected forward by an arch 15 of wood or metal which is secured at the rear end only to blocks 13 on a bridge 12. The bridge spans blocks 11 at the rear top corners of the soundbox. Deflectors 18 are carried by arms 17 mounted on the bridge. The assembly as a whole is supported by flanges 5 so that it is free to vibrate. A sound-post 10 is fitted between the sound-boards forming the top and bottom of the box 4. In a modification, Fig. 6, a second arch 20 is arranged inside the first arch 15 and both arches have apertures as at 23 25, 28. Each arch is parts of a cylindrical shell instead of a conical shell as in Figs. 1, 2, 3. .The two arches are secured in parallel relationship to space bars 21 carrying lugs 22 by which the arches are secured to the mounting block 8. Additional members 29 are weighted by bars 30 so as to vibrate in response to low frequencies.
