Abstract

729,169. Centrifugal separators. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 25, 1952], No. 29785/52. Class 23. The rotor of a clarifier driven by the reaction of a jet has a partition forming a passage of spiral formation through which the liquid being clarified flows. As shown in Fig. 1 liquid is supplied to the rotor through apertures 9 in the rotor shaft, some of the unclarified liquid being discharged through a nozzle 13 to drive the rotor. The remainder of the liquid supplied to the rotor is clarified during inward flow through the spiral passage formed by the partition 2, and is finally discharged through a bore 11 in the rotor shaft. A fine gauze may be provided at the centre of the rotor. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the partition 2 has flanges 19 which form the end faces of the rotor, and the rotor is fitted with bushes 20 for mounting on a spindle provided with axial inlets. The liquid flows from the inlets along the spiral passage and when clarified is discharged through a nozzle 13, the reaction of the discharging liquid driving the rotor. The Provisional Specification states that two spiral passages connected in series may be arranged axially in the rotor. Specification 710,510 is referred to.
