To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUoUs'r SoHMt'ioK- V ING, residing at Essen, Germany, a citizen of the German Republic, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Centrifugal Drums, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to centrifugal drums which are designed for clarifying liquids and are provided with outlet openings at their circumference serving for deliverin the separated constitutents of the liqui The invention has for its object to so improve centrifugal drums of the character stated that a particularly efficient clarification of the liquid is attained without remarkable losses in liquid. 1 The drawing illustrates by way of exam ple an embodiment of the subject-matter of the invention, showing a centrifugal drum fitted with inserted separate filtering elements and designed for the clarification of lacs,

n a bearing sleeve A there is fixed the tubular projection b of the drum base B. The latter extends upwardly so as to form, in the prolongation of the projection b, a sleeve b the free end of WhlGll shows external screw threads b and projects beyond the drum cap C. A nut D screwed on the threads 6 firmly presses the drum cap C against the base B and a pack ing ring E interposed between the parts B and C. The hollow space of the sleeve 6 is connected to the hollow space of the drum B C by three passages 6* which are set at with relation to each other. The passages 15 open into radial grooves b of the drum base B.
Within the drum B G are arranged, in a well-hown manner, disks F which form the clarifyin filters. The disks F each show, at equal istance from their axis of rotation, three holes f likewise set at 120 with relation to each other. When the drum is ready for use, the holes 7 of all the disks F are situated above one another and above the rooves b. The latter are covered by the owermost disk F. In the lower portion of the drum cap G which portion is'the most distant from the drum axis, are provided three recesses c the walls of which are eccentrically curved with relation to the drum axis. that its inner wall surface is inclined towards the said recesses 0 A tangential boring 0 each leads from the deepest portion of said recesses 0 into an external recess, respectively, of the circumferential wall of the drum cap C, a nozzle G being screwed .in each of said borings c. In the following the process of clarifying a lac liquid will be described in detail.
From the supply tank indicated by dash a d dotted lines on the drawing the lac firstly .enters the interior of the sleeve b and from there, through the passages b the grooves b underneath the disks F. The lac will rise through the holes f while at the same time its s ecifically heavier constituents, the mud, are urled outwards, owing to centrifugal action, and led into the recesses c by the downwardly inclined disks F. As the drum is rotating in the direction of arrow 0;, Fi 2, the lac'undergoes a relative movement in opposite direction owing to its inertia. In consequence of this relative movement the separated constituents will be washed towards the deepest portion of the recesses 0 see the dash and dotted lines of Fig. 2. This is facilitated by the above-described shape of the walls of the drum cap C. vThe mud then leaves the drum through the nozzles G, a portion of the force s cut for the acceleration of the lac liquid by the jets of lac tangentially spouting out of the nozzles G in the direction opposite to the rotation of the drum. The clarified lac flows out through the borings 0.
Claims:
1. In a centrifugal drum for clarifying liquids and having circumferential outlets for the separated constituents of the liquid, collecting recessses of increasing depth at the inside of the circumferential wall of the drum, saidoutlets being situated at the deepest portion of said recesses, and a nozzle 1n each outlet.
