Abstract

729,027. Filing papers. SOENNECKEN, A., [trading as SOENNECKEN, F.]. Nov. 23, 1953 [May 20, 1953; July 10, 1953], No. 32423/53. Class 146(1). A letter file comprising bowed members rockable under the influence of a lever-operated pin acting against a spring for closing the file has the pin freely mounted in two guide slots angularly disposed in relation to one another, one slot being in the hub part of the lever and the other in a bracket plate pivotally supporting the lever. The file comprises either two pairs of bowed members 8, 9 and 81 91 or the normal lever arch file with one pair of bowed members 8, 9 co-operating with fixed posts 2, 3, rivetted at 4, 5 to the base plate 1. The bowed members 8, 9 and 8<SP>1</SP> 9<SP>1</SP> are integrally formed with an axle having a cranked part 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and rectilinear end parts 10, 11 which.are secured to the base plate 1 by hinge eyes 6, 7 bent out from the plate and a leaf spring 13, 13<SP>1</SP> fixed to the base plate 1 bears on the under side of the cranked parts 12 12<SP>1</SP> to move the bowed members to the open position. The lever 16 has a hub 15 provided with a slot 17 extending in the open position (Fig. 3) more or less parallel to the cranked part 12, and the lever is pivotally mounted at 16a to a bracket 17 bent out of the base plate 1, the bracket 17 having a slot 19 inclined at an angle to the base plate 1 and terminating in a horizontal portion 20. The operating pin 14 extends through the two slots 18, 19 and has an antifriction roller 15a bearing on the cranked part 12, the roller being freely axially movable. A similar roller 15a<SP>1</SP> on the opposite side of the bracket 17 bears on the cranked part 12<SP>1</SP> for the construction with two pairs of bowed members. When the lever 16 is moved from the open position shown in Fig. 3, the pin 14 is moved down slot 19 by the action of the slot 18 and finally is locked in position in the slot 20. The lever 16 is cranked and knurled to provide a handle 21 and two handles close together may be provided for assisting the opening movement from the slot 20 or, as shown in Fig. 5, the lever may be in the form of a crescent with arms 22, 23 having handles or keys 25, 24, the arms being strengthened at 27, 26. The keys 24, 25 may be differently coloured or marked to distinguish them.
