728,691. Friction grip fastenings ; rope coupling devices. WARBURTON, R. E. L., and SANDFORD, W. H. Oct. 14, 1953 [Nov. 14, I952], No. 28731/52. Classes 44 and 109. [Also in Group XXX] A cable stopper of the wedge-and-socket type has the sliding member (e.g. socket 1) provided with a V-shaped groove 2 for the reception of cable 8, and includes a metal bearing strip 9 positioned between the fixed member (e.g. wedge 4) and the sliding member to prevent friction therebetween. As shown, wedge 4 is secured at 7, and strip 9 is secured to the sliding socket 1 at 11. In alternative forms, the wedge may slide in the socket which is then fixed, and the strip may take a number of shapes. Thus the slip may be bent so as to press the wedge against the cable or it may be a double-limbed spring bent around the wedge.
