Abstract

728,472. Vehicle jacks. NOBLE, J. D. Jan. 26, 1953 [May 29, 1952], No. 2201/53. Class 79(3). [Also in Group XXX] A portable and collapsable gantry crane comprises an elongated horizontally disposed bridge beam supported by a pair of towers and means pivotally connected to the opposite ends of the bridge beam and engaged with the towers for movement lengthwise thereof. The crane towers are pivoted to and nesting upon a cross beam having ground engaging wheels for transportation as a trailer and two adjustable ground engaging supports are lowered to support the crane independently of a tractor. The beam is adjusted to the horizontal by ground engaging screw jacks 58, Fig. 9, secured to the base of each tower and by extending outriggers 55, 56, which nest in compartments in the base, and a pivoted telescopic arm 59 each having adjustable screw jacks 57 and ground engaging feet- 18. In operation the cross beam is raised together with the wheels so that the crane is supported by the base of the towers and by the ground engaging feet.
