Abstract
728,058. Fastenings. FINCH & CO., Ltd., B., and CORPE, T. C. March 3, 1953 [March 3, 1952], No. 5548 /52. Class 44. A fuel hopper door which is hinged along its bottom edge, is provided with locking means which are releasable only from the inside of the door, and are automatically operated to lock the door when the latter is brought to closed position from fully open position, with detent means inside the door for holding the locking means in a released position when the door is in a nearly closed position, so that the door can be freely swung open from outside. The door 11, having a front panel 12 and two triangular side panels 13 is hinged by studs 14 to the fixed frame 10. Arms 16 secured to the side panels carry a cross bar 17, the ends of which project beyond the arms 16. A hand lever 19 is pivoted to a bracket 18 fixed to the top of frame 10 and is formed with a catch plate 20, in which are formed notches 21 and 23, in which the crossbar 17 engages in the closed, locked, position, and the partially open position (as shown in Fig. 2) respectively. From this partially open position the door can be fully opened from outside by pulling its upper edge forward, the bar 17 comes out of notch 23, and the lever 19 drops and rests on bar 17. In the fully open position the ends of bar 17 abut against the sides of frame 10. On pushing the door shut from outside, bar 17 slides along the lower edge of lever 19 until it engages in notch 21, locking the door shut.
