CABINET Lock.
' f Application filed May 9,
To allwho mlz't may concerafo Be it known that I, OSC'ARBRUNNER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at St.
Louis, Missouri, have invented 'a certain new and useful Improvement in Cabinet Locks, of which the following isaspecification, such. as will enable othersskilled in the arthto which it 'appertains to make and use the same. l l
My invention relates to the construction of cabinets provided with drawers, lockers, bins and the like, and consists in an im-. proved locking mechanism for the drawers, etc.
The objects of my invention are to pro vide a Single manipulative member adapted to engage substantially all of the drawers, etc. to provide a drawer equipped with the ordinary lock which also looks such operating member, and to render access to the perating member impossible except when the drawer is open.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention,-
Figure 1 is a top view of a selected cabinet with the top removed.
Figure 2 is a front elevation.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section taken immediately in the rear of the drawers. I
Figures 4 and 5 are vertical transverse sections taken on lines 44 and 55, respectively, of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a detail vertical transverse section on an enlarged scale.
The cabinet is provided with the usual top 1, sides 2, and back 3. A fascia or rail 4 extends along the bottom of the top near the front of the latter. The cabinet has drawers, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 resting upon slides 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, respectively, and is also provided with bins 16 each adapted to tilt at its lower front edge so as to open forwardly of the cabinet.
Near the rear wall 3 of the cabinet and slidable longitudinally thereof is a frame member 17, the lower horizontal bar of which rests upon drawer slides 13 and 15, and the upper bar of which passes beneath one of the slides 11. The intermediate bar of the frame passes over one of slides 12 and under one of slides 14. It will be seen that frame 17 is free to move to the right or left but cannot move upwardly or downwardly. If desired, one or more brackets 18 may be secured to the cabinet near wall 3 to 1924. SeriaLNo. 711,.ee1.
stitutes for the slide elements which engage the frame. The member. 17 is provided with clips or other projecting elements .19 having guideor support frame 17. These brackets 1 may beused either jll'l addition to oras sub-' vertical faces adapted to engage corresponding elements-2Q. provided.on drawers 7, 8,v 9.
and 10:.when aligned therewithi Member 17 lSsllSO provided with projecting elements 19, adapted .to present horizontal engaging surfaces to corresponding elements 20 projecting from thelower rear edges of bin 16 when aligned therewith, thereby positively,
. The locking member .17 may be moved.
preventing tilting movement of the bin.
transversely of longitudinally of lever 21 ;pivoted its supporting slides and at 22 to the lower surface of the cabinet top and:;terminatin'g at its forward end in a downwardly offset projection 23 which extends into an arcuate recess 24 provided in the inner face of rail 4.
The upper left hand drawer 6 of the cabinet is not engaged by locking member 17 but is provided with an individual lock 25 adapted to be operated by a key in the usual manner. The lock bolt 26, when projected, extends upwardly to engage a lock plate 27 on the upper face of recess 24 in rail 4. Projection 23 on lever 21 is recessed to receive bolt 26 when'projected and it will be understood that when the lever is in the position shown in full lines in Figure 1 and when drawer 6 is closed and its lock bolt projected as indicated in Figure 6, the lever will be positively held in the position to lock the drawers and bins as described. It will be noted that drawer 6 can be locked with lever 21 in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 1, in which case the remainsurface adapted to engage said drawer to prevent its withdrawal and having a horizontal surface adapted to engage said bin the cabinet by meansof ato prevent its tilting, and locking means at the front of said, cabinet for preventing movement of said member.
2. In a cabinet, a plurality of drawers, a.
movable member in the rear of the cabinet for engaging said drawers to prevent their being opened, manually operated means at the front of the cabinet for moving said member to disengage said drawers, another drawer, the front of which when the drawer is closed prevents access to said means, and a lock for said last-mentioned drawer adapted to lock said means also,
3. In a cabinet, a plurality of drawers, a movable member in the rear of the cabinet for engaging said drawers to prevent their being opened, a lever pivoted between its -ends to the underside of the top of the cabinet, connected at its rear end to said member and with its forward end terminating near the front of the cabinet, a drawer not engaged by said member, a lock plate on the cabinet a lock in the: front wall of said drawer, the bolt of which lock moves vertically to engage said lock plate, and also engages said lever to prevent its return when saidlever has moved said member to functioning position.
4. In a cabinet, drawer slides, drawers therein, a tilting bin, the rear wall of which rises when the bin is opened, a frame supported .bysome of said slides, held against lifting by others of said slides and movable transversely of said slides, vertical elements on said drawers, horizontal elements on said bins, elements on' said frame adapted to engage said drawer and bin elements to prevent opening of the drawers and bins, and means for -movin-g said frame across said slides to engage orv disengage said elements.
5. Ina cabinet, a top, drawers, a lock on the front of one of said drawers, a locking member for the drawers in the rear of said cabinet, a memberop'erating lever pivoted to the lower face of the top of said cabinet, with one arm terminating near the front thereof and offset downwardly to afford a finger hold, a front rail on said top recessed to receive said offset end, a lock plate in said recess to receive the bolt of said lock, said offset end being recessed to receive said bolt when said lever ismoved to position to cause said member to lock said drawers.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature this 1st day of May, 1924'.
OSCAR BRUNNER.
