Abstract
621,881. Handbags. POTTS, M. M. Sept. 20, 1946, No. 28188. [Class 133] A handbag is provided with a side or sides or a portion of a side or sides (in a panel) which, being hinged at the bottom and if necessary suitably reinforced or stiffened, is or are adapted to be opened to a position at right angles to the bag to form a tray-like support and maintained in such open position by means designed to resist, until intentionally moved, the closing of same. As shewn, a handbag a has the side a<SP>1</SP> formed with a tray-panel b hinged at b<SP>1</SP> and provided with loops c and a compartment d for receiving articles e. A mirror f pivoted at its lower end in a bracket g on the panel b' and engaging the under surface of a stop h on the rear of a box-like cavity resists the closing of the panel. The cavity j is isolated from the rest of the bag's interior a<SP>2</SP> and is provided with clips or compartments. The panel b when closed is secured by a tongue b' and fasteners b<SP>3</SP> and b<SP>4</SP>. A pocket k is provided to receive a key m secured by a fine chain m<SP>1</SP>. The pivotal arrangement of the mirror f may be spring-loaded so that it automatically engages the stop on opening the panel b. Alternatively side members to resist the closing of the panel b may be substituted for the mirror f or may be used in conjunction with the mirror which is independently pivoted from the back of the cavity j and does not engage the stop.
