Abstract

727,975. Gas filters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 21, 1953 [Oct. 22, 1951; June 25, 1952], Nos. 24654/51 and 15995/52. Class 8 (2). A gas filter element comprises a continuous lap 1, Fig. 4, of openly spaced finely divided fibres folded to and fro with relatively incompressible separating members 5 between the layers and extending over the greater part of adjacent folds so as to leave free unsupported edges 7 adapted to be compacted by compression. On forcibly inserting the pad into a casing 4, Fig. 1, with the folded layers arranged perpendicular to a closing plate 8, the face edges 7 are pressed together by the sides of the casing. The lap 1 is of fine asbestos supported by coarser cotton fibres, or maybe of glass or polystyrene, and the separators 5 may comprise wire gauze, flat perforated metal sheets, corrugated cardboard or plastic material. The gauze and flat separators may have stiffening ribs. Specification 482,137 is referred to.
