Abstract

720,193. Filters. VOKES, Ltd. March 26, 1953. [Jan. 16, 1952 ; May 13, 1952] Nos. 1313/52 and 12151/52. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] At least one end of a pleated filter element 1 Fig. 2 is sealed against a hard flat surface 7 forming an end plate of a casing 6 by adhesively securing to said end a thin resilient pad 4 of width as least as great as the depth of the pleats and interposing between said surface 7 and the free side of the pad 4 a second pad 5 capable of accommodating irregularities on the face opposed to the pad 5 while presenting a flat surface to the hard surface 7. The pad 5 is of rubber and is thicker but narrower than the pad 4 which is impregnated with lacquer to effect stiffening. The element which may be star-shaped or panel-shaped comprises a layer of textile or felted material 3, Fig. 3, a layer of fine textile material 3a and a layer of wire gauze 2 over which are bent the ends of the layers of materials 3, 3a. The pad 5 may be reinforced and a metal insert may have a recess engaged by a nib projecting from the surface 7. In a modification wherein one end of the element is blanked off, the felt pad has moulded to it a rubber backing from which projects an upstanding narrow rib forming the second pad.
