Abstract

The invention comprises 6b ,17a -dihydroxyprogesterone and the production of 6,17a -dihydroxyprogesterone by bringing 17a - hydroxyprogesterone into contact with enzymes produced by a growing fungus of the genus Rhizopus, e.g. Rhizopus arrhizus or Rhizopus nigricans, under aerobic conditions. The examples describe the simultaneous production of 11,17-dihydroxyprogesterone which is separated by chromatographic methods.
