Abstract
The invention comprises 3-keto-bisnor-4-cholen - 11(a ),22 - diol and 3 - keto - bisnor - 4 - cholen-6(b ),11(a )-22-triol, and the preparation thereof by bringing 3-keto-bisnor-4-cholen-22-al into contact with oxygenating substances produced by a growing fungus of the genus Rhizopus, e.g. Rhizopus arrhizus or Rhizopus nigricans, under aerobic conditions. The fermentation may be effected by a viable fungus in the presence of a nutrient medium. The products may be separated by chromatographic technique.
