Abstract

An insecticidal composition is prepared by treating oil of turpentine, or terpene hydrocarbons of formula C10H16 with 3 to 8 per cent. concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperature below 0 DEG C., removing the tars and saturating the resulting mixture of alpha pinene and polymerised pinene with a chlorinated insecticide such as D.D.T. or benzene hexachloride at room temperature, and then adding an emulsifying agent. The preferred emulsifying agent is colophony saponified with aqueous alkali, e.g. potassium hydroxide.
