Abstract

An insecticidal and soil sterilizing composition comprises, in association with a non-solvent diluent, benzene hexachloride made by treating benzene with chlorine in the presence of a catalyst which either forms a compound with chlorine or is a compound of chlorine such compound being one which does not liberate chlorine under the conditions of the reaction; or benzene hexachloride which is in a very finely divided form having a melting point of substantially 120 DEG C and which is soluble in benzene. The diluent may be talcum, infusional earth, precipitated sulphur, or a liquid in which benzene hexachloride or a solution thereof, e.g. in a hydrocarbon, is dispersed. An emulsifying agent such as a fatty alcohol or soapy water may be used. Specification 646,917, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
