726,548. Inrternal shoe-drum brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. April 27, 1954 [Jan. 29, 1953], No. 2624/53. Class 103 (1). An automatic clearance adjustment mechanism for' brakes, which although shown applied to an internal shoe-drum brake, may also be used in a band or disc brake comprises outer and inner telescopic members 15 and 17, such as the cylinder and piston of an hydraulic actuator, two friction members in the form of arcuate metal strips 24 located in a groove 22 in the piston being urged against the bore of the cylinder 13 by a coiled compression spring 25. The friction of the strips 24 against the bore of the cylinder 15 is insufficient to resist movement of the piston by hydraulic pressure but restricts release movement to the clearance of strips 24 in the groove 22.
