Abstract
725,670. Holders for thermionic valves; supports for circuit components. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Jan. 23, 1953 [May 27, 1952], No. 2007/53. Class 38 (1). A mounting device for electronic circuit components comprises a head plate 10 carrying valve holders 18, and a base member 26 held in spaced relation to the head plate by posts 34. Intermediate the members 10, 26 are arranged a number of connecter plates 40 carrying terminals 42 to which the components are attached. Plates 40 are resilient and apertures 40a therein which embrace posts 34 are large enough to permit the plates to be flexed to disengage the inner edges of the apertures from slots 46 in the posts whereby the plates may be engaged in other slots 46, a number of which are provided on each post. Member 26 has pins 32 moulded therein and adapted to engage bifurcated socket contacts 54, the terminal stems 52 of which snap into slots in the bases of recesses 60 in a socket member 48. The contacts are engaged by first inserting the pins longitudinally into slots 62 in member 48 intermediate the sockets 54, the pins being guided into said slots by a block 64 on member 48 which enters a slot 66 in member 26. The members 48, 26 are then moved laterally relatively to each other causing the pins to slide laterally into the sockets, said members being looked together by an overhanging portion 74 of block 64 which enters a recess 78 in member 26. The lateral movement is effected by a cam 84 eccentrically mounted on a shaft 90 on the mounting device and engaging a recess 88 in socket member 48. The spacing between the socket contacts is not uniform so that some contacts engage before the others. An earthing contact 116 is located in recess 88 and is engaged by the cam prior to engagement of any of the pin and socket contacts. A number of mounting devices may be mounted side by side between brackets in a frame (Fig. 2, not shown).
