Abstract

725,446. Gas purifiers. BAMAG-MEGUIN AKT.-GES. March 13, 1953, No. 6935/53. Class 55 (2). An apparatus for removing spent oxide from a container of a tower purifier consists of a disc 3 rotatably supported on rollers 2 and upon which the container 5 is positioned. As shown, the container has two oxide layers 6 supported on perforated sheet.metal trays 7 arranged around a central gas inlet or outlet tube which is made in two portions 8 each corresponding in length to the layer thickness. To remove the oxide, the disc supporting the container is rotated and an arm 14, carrying a crosshead 16 from which depend scrapers 17, lowered on a vertical column 13 until the scrapers engage and loosen the oxide on the surface of the top layer. Guides 18 on the crosshead then direct the oxide into the lower tube portion 8, the top portion having been previously removed. The oxide falls into an opening 1 of a pit provided below the apparatus. When the top layer has been removed, the upper trays 7 and lower tube portion 8 are taken from the container and the bottom layer removed in the same manner. In a modification, the crosshead 16 is revolved whilst the container remains stationary.
