Abstract
1326297 Separating dust from gases MIDLAND-ROSS CORP 26 May 1971 [25 June 1970] 17326/71 Heading B1R Dust laden gas, e.g. the effluent stream from a blast furnace, is passed through pipe 15 so as to impinge on the surface 37 of wash water in sump 12 at a velocity of at least 8000ft/min. The gas stream then rises through packing 21, 23 in counterflow to wash water which after introduction through pipes 31 to tray 25 passes down through the packing to the sump. The packing 23 adjacent the gas input pipe and the walls of the scrubber has a mean size no greater than half that of the rest of the packing 21; this is to avoid "channelling". Scrubbed gas leaves by pipe 17 while suspended dust is removed by pipe 14.
