Abstract

725,378. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. May 11, 1953 [May 13, 1952], No. 13076/53. Class 135. In hydraulic control apparatus such as is employed for the raising and lowering of agricultural implements, a control valve for a hydraulic motor 17 has lands 43, 44 controlling ports 39, 41 leading to opposite ends of the motor, and a third land 42 controlling a plunger which operates a by-pass valve 83 in a conduit 23, 25 connecting a hydraulic supply pump P with an inlet chamber 35 of the control valve whereby the by-pass valve is opened when the control valve is in neutral position closing the ports 39, 41. Chambers 45, 47, 48 are interconnected by drillings 49, 51, 52 and lead to exhaust through the right-hand, open, end of the bore housing the control valve. A passage 91, 95, incorporating a restriction 94 leads from the pump delivery to ports 36 controlled by the land 42, and the plunger for operating the by-pass valve is exposed to the pressure in the section 95. Movement of the control valve opens the passage 91, 95 to exhaust to allow a spring 84 to close the by-pass valve. The ports 39, 41 connect with the motor 17 through passages 54, 55, check valves 56, 57 and passages 72, 75, the check valves causing the motor to be hydraulically locked when the control valve is in neutral position. Pressure fluid in either passage 54, 55 opens the corresponding check valve to pass to one end of the motor and also moves a plunger 65 to open the other check valve so that the other end of the motor may exhaust. The ports 39, 41 are supplemented by smaller ports (not shown) which are offset in the axial direction of the control valve so as to be opened slightly in advance of the main ports 39, 41. The control valve is actuated through differential gearing 96 and is returned to neutral position by a feedback linkage 104 between the member operated by the motor 17 and the differential gearing.
