Abstract
1386576 Tractor hydraulic Systems FORD MOTOR CO LTD 7 March 1973 [8 March 1972] 11163/73 Heading A1P A control mechanism for a tractor hydraulic lift system has passages 15 and 16 in a lift cylinder body 10 supplying fluid to and from the lift cylinder through a lift control valve 46. A constant displacement pump supplier fluid via passage 12 to the valve assembly and fluid is returned to sump via passage 14. A control valve 17 shown in the neutral position in Fig. 1 moves to the left for raising and to the right for lowering the implement. In the lowering position Fig. 4 (not shown) port 26 is uncovered and fluid is fed to chamber 27 thus forcing the unload valve 19 to the right and permitting pump supply fluid in passage 12 to return to sump via passage 14. At the same time control valve 17 progressively uncovers axially spaced metering ports 31 connected with the lift covered as the control valve 17 moves to the left. (Fig. 3, not shown, being the full raise position.) Pressure in supply passage 15 is also fed to chamber 40 in bushing 34 of automatic flow control valve 20. Position of the valve 20 is determined by balance between spring 39 plus pressure in chamber 40 against pressure in chamber 42. Chamber 42 is fed with pump supply pressure from passage 12 via passage 44. The flow control valve 20 operates only when the unload valve 19 is not passing the output of the pump directly to passage 14 and sump. Pressure drop across passages 12 and 15 depends on number of ports 29 uncovered by land 30. In the slow raise position Fig. 2 (not shown) ports 29 are partially uncovered so that pressure drop across passages 12 and 15 is fairly high. In this condition full pump pressure in chamber 42 overcomes combined spring and passage 15 pressure in chamber 40 to move the automatic flow control valve 20 to the left Fig. 2 (not shown) so that the land 35 uncovers port 33 and pump pressure is released via passage 37 to sump. With control valve 17 in full raise position Fig. 3 (not shown) ports 29 are fully uncovered resulting in low pressure drop between passages 15 and 12. In this condition pressure in chamber 40 plus spring pressure overcomes pump pressure in chamber 42 so that valve 20 moves to the right preventing return of fluid via passage 37 and making maximum fluid available for ram operation. In order to prevent overheating by fluid being continually by-passed via passage 37, the valve system is designed so that when the control valve 17 is permitting only a small amount of fluid to pass to the inlet passage 15, the land 25 will uncover groove 26 so as to pressurize chamber 27 and unload the system via passage 14.
