Abstract

725,160. Beet-harvesters. JONGENEEL, A. M. Feb. 5, 1953, No. 3313/53. Class 6 (3). A beet-harvester, of the type whereiu the beets are simultaneously dug and picked up by a spiked wheel 26 and topped while carried by the wheel, comprises a frame 8 pivoted at its rear end on brackets 12 secured to the rearaxle housing 6 of a tractor and mounted at its front end upon a power-actuated link 16, the frame 8 pivotally supporting a floating frame 21 which carries the pick-up wheel, the latter being driven from the rear axle 7 by a chain 30. The link 10 depends from an arm 15 rigid with a rock-shaft 14 journalled on the tractor chassis 2 and rocked by a hydraulic ram 19 to raise and lower both frames 8, 21. The frame 8 includes a rear shaft 10 rotatable' in the brackets 12 and on which the frame 21 is separately rotatable. A jockey-sprocket 34 maintains the chain 30 taut in all positions. The frame 21 also carries an elevator for the beets, a stripping member 38 for removing the cut tops from the wheel 26 and a shoot 39 deflecting stripped tops on to a transverse conveyer 40, these parts 'being as described in Specification 668,813. A spring 50 connected between the frames 8 and 21 maintains the pick-up wheel in ground-engagement.
