Abstract

802,973. Beet harvester. JONGENEEL, A. M. July 19, 1957 [March 25, 1957], No. 22957/57. Class 6(3). A beet harvester for mounting on a tractor comprises a frame 20 fixed longitudinally between a rear wheel 4 of the tractor and the tractor body 2, a depth control frame 36 mounted on the fixed frame and movable up and down in relation to it, plough blades 9 projecting down from the depth-control frame and a spiked beet pick-up wheel 12 rotatably mounted on a floating frame 47 connected to the fixed frame. The fixed frame 20 includes side beams 21, 22, cross beam 23 and a rear crossbeam 24. A fixed cross-shaft 25 projects from between the side-beams 21, 22 to a point below a remote axle-housing 6 to which it is secured by a bracket 26, fitted with a clamp 27. A similar bracket 28 secures the cross-beam 24 to one of the axle housing 6 by a clamp 29. The crossbeam 23 extends laterally under the body 2 of the tractor to which it is attached by posts 30, 31, a connector plate 33 permitting lateral adjustment of the post 30. The depth control frame 36 is pivoted to the cross-shaft 25 by split collars 41 and includes side-beams 37, 38 connected by a cross-plate 39, the plough blades 9 and mounts 11 of disc coulters 10 being secured to the beams 37, 38. The frame 36 rests in its adjustable set-screw 42 on the plate 39, the lowered position on a stop made up of an screw 42 abutting against a stop 43 projecting from the beam 23. A ram 44, pivoted between the side-beam 21 and side-beam 37, may be extended by fluid pressure to swing the frame 36 upwards to an inoperative position and thereby raise the pick-up wheel 12 and a beet-topping unit, Fig. 1 (not shown) mounted on the floating frame 47, a stop formed by an adjustable set-screw 58 on a cross-plate 50 of the frame 47 abutting on a stop plate 59 on the plate 39. Side-beams 48, 49 of the frame 47 are pivoted by split collars 51 on the cross-shaft 25, and the beam 48 is offset, Fig. 2, to clear the ram 44. The pick-up wheel 12 is carried on a shaft 52 in the floating frame 47, the shaft 52 having a sprocket 53 driven by an endless chain 54 from a drive sprocket 55 on the tractor axle 5. A tightener 56, equipped with a tension spring 57, keeps the chain taut. Conveyers, Fig. 1 (not shown) are provided for removing the severed beets and the beet tops.
