Abstract
724,998. Step-by-step conveyers. KOPPERS GES., H. March 3, 1953 [March 19, 1952; May 23, 1952; Oct. 6, 1952], No. 5934/53. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for transferring finegrained granular material through a channel 8, Fig. 1, having a weightloaded valve 10 at its exit from a space at high pressure to a space at low pressure without any substantial flow of gas between the two spaces, the material is fed through the channel by a piston 7 mounted on a swinging arm 6. The apparatus may be surrounded by a cooling jacket 15. In a modification, Fig. 5, the arm 6 is connected by a forked link 28 to the piston which is a gas-tight fit in the channel. The link 28 may be pressed against a guide 42 by a spring 39 attached to it and to the arm. In another modification, Fig. 6, the channel 8 increases in diameter away from the piston and opens into a casing 54 which houses a friction body 55 mounted on a continuously rotating shaft 56. The material passes between the body 55 and the housing into a ring channel 58 into which project jets 59. A gas, e.g. oxygen, supplied to the jets blows the material into a duct 60. The cylindrical part 61 of the body 55 is provided with labyrinth channels 62 into which gas is passed from one or more jets 64 to prevent the passage of material to the stuffing box 65. A branch 69 of the channel 8 contains a cylindrical bush 70 in which is mounted one end of a piston 73. The other end of the piston is within a housing 75 and is exposed continuously to fluid pressure.
