Abstract
651,429. Stuffing-box substitutes. MILES & PARTNERS (LONDON), Ltd., J. March 1, 1948, No. 6474. '[Class 122(v)] [Also in Group XII] In a blast furnace top comprising a rotatable small hopper 7 coaxial with a fixed large hopper 1, an annular resiliently loaded expansion bellows 17 is secured at one of its ends to one of the hoppers and carries at its other end a ring 18 pressed against a flat transverse annular bearing surface 4A on the other hopper. The rubbing surfaces are lubricated through channels 20 in the ring 4 which provides the bearing surface 4A. If the ring 18 is made of steel the ring 4 may be of cast iron, carbon, graphitic material or an oil impregnated material.
