724,697. Fluid-actuation of switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 5, 1953, No. 6148/53. Class 38 (5). A switching device adaptable to operate alternatively as a fluid pressure responsive and as a flow responsive device comprises two substantially identical bellows 3, 4 mounted on opposite sides of a fixed block 25, and bearing at their outer ends 32, 33 on parts 19, 20 of a lever 6 pivoted to the block at 7. The lever 66 carries adjustable operating screws co-operating with a pair of micro-switches 5 carried by the block 2. The latter has a through bore 8 comprising a narrow centre part 9 and enlarged, threaded end parts 10, 11, for connection to external pipes. When the device is to be flow responsive, a valve plunger 34 is adjustably screwed into a bore 12 in the block, the bellows being connected through pipes 16, 17 to opposite sides of the bore 12. When the device is to be pressure-operated, the plunger 34 is withdrawn, a sealing plug is inserted in bore 12 and the plunger 34 is re-inserted, thereby closing the passage 9 and subjecting the ends of pipes 16, 17 to different pressure sources.
