Abstract

724,654. Variable - pitch propellers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 16, 1953 [Jan. 16, 1952], No. 1305/53. Class 114. A low-pitch stop prevents the pitch falling below a predetermined amount when in flight but this stop can be overridden when'the aircraft is supported on a landing surface. A governor 120 controls solenoids actuating valve 6 and so adjusting pitch to maintain a speed. A speed responsive valve 7 controls a high and low pitch setting, but this is also moved by the cam 102 to maintain a minimum low-pitched position when in flight. A parallel linkage from the propeller blade opens the switch 104 to override the governor 120. When on the ground, however, the parallel switch 110 is closed, thus bringing solenoid 43 into circuit to actuate valve 6 and so further reduce the pitch, until the fluid pressures on piston 72 balance.
