Abstract

674,998. Flap control systems. DEHN, S. G. (Northrop Aircraft, Inc.). Nov. 3, 1949, No. 28197/49. Class 4. In a flap control system a plurality of flaps 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d are operated individually by hydraulic jacks 30a, 31a, 32, 33 controlled by solenoid-operated valves 10, 10a connected to switches 19, 20 on a follow-up drum 18 associated with the pilot's control member 11, and the flaps operate limit switches 35a, 36, 37, 38 arranged in the circuit of the " flaps up " valve 10 and arranged to be opened when the flaps are all in the fully raised position. In operation the pilot moves the member 11 to the appropriate position to close the switch 20 and operate the " flaps down " valve 10a, the switch being opened automatically as the flaps reach the desired position by rotation of the follow-up drum 18 through a cable and pulley system 26, 27. Upon raising the flaps the circuit of the " flaps up " valve 10 remains closed until the last flap to reach the fully raised position opens its associated limit switch, thus preventing premature cutting off of the pressure liquid to the jacks.
