Abstract

723,796. Strengthening edges of sheet material. WILKE, R. Jan. 23. 1952 [Jan. 27, 1951], No. 1892/52. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XXX] A conveyer belt having an interlay of metallic wire and/or of plastic filament or cord is characterized in that the said interlay in its marginal zones is surrounded by strips of fabric which are vulcanized into the marginal zones of the belt. As shown in Fig. 1, an interlay 2 consisting of longitudinal wires, plastic filaments or cords 2a interwoven with transverse wires, plastic filaments or cords 2b and vulcanized into the rubber belt 1, is surrounded in the vicinity of its marginal zones by fabric strips 3 which are vulcanized into the marginal zones of the belt. In a modification, Fig. 3, in which the interlay consists solely of longitudinal wires, plastic filaments or cords 2a, the upper surface of the interlay is overlaid with a thin layer of fabric 3a connected with the fabric strips 3. A second thin layer of fabric may also be disposed under the lower surface of the interlay.
