[Also in Group XXX] In a belt conveyer of the kind in which the belt is driven by means such as cables or chains which travel with and are connected to the belt, and comprises a body of rubber, polyvinyl chloride or like flexible material reinforced longitudinally and transversely with threads or fabrics in one or more plies, additional longitudinal reinforcement is provided at or near the longitudinal margins of the belt consisting of substantially inextensible wires, tapes, cords or like elements. In Fig. 2, the belt consists of a core layer 10 between layers 11, 12 of woven fabric which are turned over around the edges of the layer 10, and two outer covers 14, 15 of rubber. The layer 10 consists of a central rubber body with reinforcement bands 16 at its sides of multi-stranded steel wires embedded in rubber, and outside the bands are additional fabric reinforcements or rubber insertions 17. When the belt is to be troughed, it is provided with additional reinforcement bands 18, Fig. 3, which lie along the angles between the sides and base of the trough. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the belt consists of a rubber core 20, reinforcement layers 21, 22 and cover layers 23, 24 of rubber. Each layer 21, 22 is of woven fabric and has woven with the fabric, two bands 25 of multi-strand high-tensile wire. Fig. 6 shows another modification in which the belt consists of a rubber core 30, textile layers 31, 32, rubber covers 33, 34, and a band 36 of high tensile wires secured adjacent each edge of the cover 33, the wires being covered by a fabric layer 37 and a rubber cover 38.
