723,351. Frequency measuring. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HARROLD, A. E. April 28, 1953 [April 28, 1952], No. 10663/52. Class 37. In a device for measuring the difference in frequency between two oscillators with or without means for exercising a control at a predetermined value of such difference, the oscillation frequencies are multiplied and then mixed and the beat-frequency current passes to the primary 7 of a transformer 8 through a high resistance 6 which maintains the current substantially independent of frequency. The voltage induced in the secondary 9, which is thus proportional to frequency, is rectified at 11 and the smoothed output across resistor 14 applied to the control grid 16 of valve 17, the anode current being measured in a meter 19 calibrated in terms of frequency. The meter may be replaced or supplemented by the winding of an electromagnetic relay which operates an alarm when the frequency exceeds a preset limit.
