Abstract
723,175. Rolling. CHRISTIANIASPIGERVERK, and MORGARDSHAMMARSMEKANISKA VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 9, 1952 [Oct. 9, 1951], No. 25331/52. Class 83 (4). Rolling mills with looping repeaters have whip channels provided with approximate circular flanges to damp the whip-lash when the end of the work is freed by the rolls. In one. example the whip channel comprises a base 5 Figs. 4 and 5, with a series of arcuate flanges 7, the first flange 7 acting as the curved repeater guide. As the formed loop extends it jumps the flanges 7 and when the tail end of the rod leaves the preceding stand the loop rests against the nearest flange and is prevented from whipping. A corrugated or stepped lid 6 above the flanges 7 assists in restricting the free movement of loop. In modifications a flange 10, Fig. 15, is provided to engage the end of the rod if it flies beyond the last flange. The size of loop formed may be controlled by a series of photo-electric cells 19 which detect the. loop through apertures in the lid 6 and regulate the relative speed of the roll stands. In another example in which the speed of a succeeding roll stand is greater than a pre-. ceding stand so that the size of loop decreases, the loop is initially formed by a single curved guide 10, Fig. 13, and the size of loop is controlled by an arm 12 carrying a pin 15 engaged. by the loop and regulating the relative speed, of the roll stands through a resistance 18. On release of the end of the rod the loop reengages the curved guide 10. Specifications 587,457 and 589,913 are referred to.
