Abstract

722,794. Screw and nut actuators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 23,1951 [Aug. 23, 1950], No. 20836/50. Class 78 (3). In a motor-driven screw and nut actuator the torque reaction of the non-rotatable and axially movable nut 8 is absorbed by a ball or roller bearing 11 which is revolvably mounted on a nut extension 8b, and engages a channel guide 13 secured to the actuator casing 12. In a modification (not shown) the torque handing capacity is increased by the use of needle roller bearings and/or by duplicating the rollers. In a further modification (also not shown) the channel 13 is replaced by a single rib engaged by rollers on each side. The actuator is connected to the aircraft by means of a universal coupling 17, 18 and an eye 14. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 647,560.
