Abstract

702,289. Aircraft stall warning device. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1952 [July 16, 1951 ], No. 16874/51. Class 4 Stall warning means for an aircraft comprise a movable member 1 in the form of a plate or the like, hingedly mounted on the wing at a region where stall conditions are known to occur prior to stall of the aircraft as a whole. In unstalled flight, the member is held close to the wing by the airflow but reversal of the airflow moves the member about its pivot to effect an indication. As seen in Fig. 2, member 1 on arm 2 fitted with a counterpoise 2a is fixed to pivot 3. The insulated extension 7 of pivot 3 carries a contact 8 adapted to make electrical contact with a carbon brush 11 when the member 1 and hence the pivot 3 have reached a predetermined position. The electric contact may operate any suitable warning device. The counterpoise 2a is preferably arranged so that when there is no airflow, the member 1 adopts a position intermediate between lying close to the wing, and the position in which a warning is given.
