Abstract
707,167. Aircraft incidence detectors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1952 [July 16, 1951], No. 16872/51. Class 4 A device for indicating when an aircraft attains a predetermined angle of incidence comprises a vane 1 or the like, mounted outboard of the aircraft so as to be freely pivotable about a pitching axis between limits defined by the movement of lever arm 5 between stops 6 and 7 of which the former is adjustable, and the latter is adapted to make an electrical contact to actuate motor 11 or some other suitable device for giving a warning. Vane 1 assumes a nosedown position in normal flight, but is moved to the nose up position when the predetermined angle of incidence is.attained. In a modification, the vane shaft carries an insulated bush with a copper electrode let in, adapted to make contact with a carbon brush in the appropriate position of the vane. The vane may operate an automatic correcting device instead of giving a warning. Specification 660,854 is referred to.
