Abstract
735,810. Vehicle lamps. SAKAI, K. June 23, 1953 [July 8, 1952; July 8, 1952], No. 17416/53. Class 75 (3). A lighting arrangement for vehicles comprises a lamp 7 rotatably mounted on the vehicle about a vertical axis which is disposed in front of the centre of gravity g of the lamp so that when the vehicle changes direction the lamp is rotated by centrifugal force, and rotation is opposed by a resilient member, e.g. a spring 11 tending to centralize the lamp with its front face directed along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and directional control means, e.g. air guiding fins 9 are provided on the lamp to assist rotation and also centralization of the lamp. The spindle 6 of the lamp is rotatably received in a socket 2 secured to the vehicle. The air guiding fins 9 are mounted on both sides of the streamlined member 10. In a modified construction the lamp has a single central air guiding vane and an arm pivoted to the lamp spindle carries at its free end a serrated roller which is pressed downwardly by spring means on to a tacky surface on a fixed horizontal member of arcuate shape. Projections at the ends of the arcuate member limit the movement of the roller and so prevent over rotation of the lamp.
