Abstract
722,423. Packaging. ROBINSON, Ltd., E. S. & A. Sept. 26, 1952 [Sept. 28, 1951], No. 22726/51. Class 94 (1). A package for fragile articles comprises two elements each made of cellulose acetate or other thermoplastic material of substantial tensile strength, each element being moulded or otherwise formed to provide a recess or bed for the article which is to be packed, the two elements being adapted to be placed in juxtaposition with the article disposed therebetween and lying in the recesses or beds in both elements, the two elements each having flanges, ribs or the like directed outwardly of the assembled pack. The spacing between the outer face of each element and the plane containing the outer edge or face of the outwardly directed flange is greater than the maximum amount of projection of the outer face of the recess from the outer face of the element, whereby to provide spacing means between the outer face of the recess or bed and any other adjacent article or surface, the two elements being secured together in any suitable manner. The ampoule package shown comprises two sheets 11 of transparent cellulose acetate each moulded so that in one face 12, the inner face, recesses 13 corresponding to the shape of the ampoules are formed. The marginal portions of each sheet are turned over to form flanges 16, 17, the spacing between the outer face 15 of the sheet and the plane of the flanges 17 being greater than the maximum amount of the projection of the recess backs 14 from the outer face. The two moulded sheets are placed with their inner faces 12 adjacent the ampoules being disposed within the recesses. Adhesive tape 19, 20, secures the package and it may be placed within an outer shell of cardboard etc. which has cutaway windows to allow the ampoules to be viewed.
